IDIOTS RECOMMENDATION FOR LOCK DOWN

 The uncertain home leave has sparked my inner enthusiasm to rethink of my life. I got time to explore several authors, motivational speakers and engineers taking stand-up comedy as a full time career. In all these turbulences around I have included few of my insights I got through the journey. I have included few books and courses that I personally recommend for the enthusiastic engineers. I guess although with strict mathematical and technical skill we lag in day to day skills to operate over taxes, finances and investment schemes. So, many of them are about Finances and Entrepreneurship but I would start the article with the most basic thing everyone needs- The ability to learn.

1.   Learn How To Learn:
This course is available on COURSE-ERA.  The culture we have in engineering and everywhere is to study before the exam. But the presenter of the course Barbara Oakley presents neurological evidences and scientific way to learn properly. It presents important insights in procrastination. I prefer this course as it is about scientific way to learn properly which as academician we desperately need.

2.    Rich Dad And Poor Dad:
A lot of  people are familiar with the book and know the author Robert Kiyaoski. As a child I was never taught about investment and money. Through my educational life I have solved numerical problems but never actually made any financial statement. I lagged the concept of assets, income, tax, liabilities which are part of the real world. This book is smooth as butter. I guess it’s good to read this book for anyone.

3.   Financial Market:
This course is more formal introduction to the financial market. It talks about everything from insurance to stocks. As an engineer you might find it interesting as you will see the tools we learnt during Probability And Statistics being used to represent and apply it to finances. The course is presented by Robert Schiller of Yale University and is available as well in COURSE-ERA.

 

4.   Design: Creation Of Artifacts:
We are engineers and we tend to design artifacts to fill the gaps in the society. This course is for every engineer where the presenter paves path from historical transformation of ice-cream scoops to the more general analysis of customer needs. The presenter is Karl T. Ulrich and it is available in course-era.

 

5.    Technology Entrepreneurship: Lab to Market:
This is Harvardx course in edX. It talks about systematic way to take an innovation into the market successfully. The very question that the course answers is transformation of an individual from a technocrat to an entrepreneur.

 

6.   How to Design A Successful Business Model:
I never had idea how necessary are business models. If you have watched Hollywood movie Founder which is about MacDonalds, the company reconfigured its business model from burger sells to land lease. The  course is in edX and talks about the business model innovation. It teaches about how to innovate a business theoretically. It’s like what we call simulation in design process.

While going through motivational videos, a name that commonly surfaces up is Warren Buffet. I was interested to know more about how he made his fortune. I was more intrigued to know about the share market. So, at last I have included the recommendations of share market

7.   The Essays of Warren Buffett: Lessons for Corporate America
This book is collection of letters from Warren Buffet to his shareholders of Berkshire Hathaway, company changed from Textile to Investment Firm. The essays are compiled  and commented by Lawrence A. Cunningham . The book is quite hard to go through due to its language and specific nature. The book highlights the core value which made Buffet rich that is Value Investing: Investing in the management and product rather than blips or signal of the stock market.

 

8.   The Intelligent Investor:
This book written by Benjamin Graham is called the ‘BIBLE’ of investing. The author is father of ‘value investing’. It touches every aspect from inflation to portfolio management. Though most of the book is oriented towards US but it is acclaimed to teach the investing emotion as compared to speculating emotion to everyone. Buffet is prodigal son of Graham as he inherited the philosophy of value investment from Graham himself at Colombia University.

य़ो मन्त्र  नै  हाम्रो  देशको  संबिधान  हो  बिधान  हो  अनि  जनदेखी  तनले  रुचाएको  पुराण हो । यो  मन्त्र  सुन्दा सजिलो  भएनी  यसलाई  उपयोग गर्न  महापुजा  लाउनु  पर्छ । पुजा कठिनै  खालको  छ- जंगलमा लुक्नु पर्ने , जेल  जान  पर्ने  , भाइमारा हुनु पर्ने । तेही  भएरै  होला  गतिला  पुरुषहरुले  मात्रै  आफ्नो  टाउकोलाइ  घनटाउके  बनाउन  सफल  भएर  यो  महाम्रित्युन्जय भन्दा नि शक्तिवान  भ्रस्टाचारदेखि  हजारौको  ज्यान  लिने  सौभाग्य  ग्रहण  गराउने  यो  कालझै  अमर  ब्रम्हास्त्र प्रयोग  गर्न  सक्छन ।

हिजो  भर्खर  गाउमा  ठुलो  युद्ध  चर्कियो, पल्ला  घरे  रामले -''मेरो  टाउके  नेता  सपै भन्दा  ठुलो घनटाउके''  भन्दै बेलिबिस्तार लाउदै थियो। तेतिकैमा  च्यामेले  त  चिर्र्पटो  बोकेर  आएछ -“ अरबौको  भ्रस्टाचार  गर्ने  मेरा  नेता  ठुला  घनटाउके  हुन्  “ , “अज्झै  निहु  खोजिस  भने  खान्छस ”। कान्छो  नि  कुददै   आएर - '' तिमिहरुको  जात  र  धर्मको  हैन  मेरो  जातको  घनटाउके  राम्रो " भनेर  कस्सियेछ ।   एकछिनमा  ठुलै  होहल्ला  भयो गाउमा ।घनटाउकेतन्त्रको  एउटा  बिशेषता  यो  पनि  हो । घनटाउकेका  पुछार्ले  आफ्नो  घनटाउके महान  देख्छ अनि  अरुको  घनटाउके राक्षस । तर  बेलिबिस्तारले  चिरफार  गर्ने  हो  भने  अनि  बैज्ञानिक  तथ्य -भ्रस्तचारोमीटरमा  जाने  हो  भने  मुलत  जुनै घनटाउकेमा  हुने  रसायनमा खासै  फरक  भने  छैन । आकार  र  प्रकार  फरक  देखिए  नि  विचार  भने  एउतै  हुन्छन । त्यस कारणले  राणाकालदेखि  खै  फलानो  कालसम्म  घनटाउकेको नामका आधारमा बिभाजन   गर्नु  हुदैन  भन्ने  तर्क  नि  घनटाउकेतन्त्रका आलोचकले  गरिराखेका  हुन्छन ।

खासमा  हेर्ने  हो भने   देखिदा  घनटाउकेतन्त्र  भएनी  यसको  बनोट  बहुत  मुस्किल  छ । यो  तन्त्र  गाउदेखि  सहरसम्म  छ । क्याम्पसदेखि  आर्मी  क्याम्प्सम्म  छ ।लास्स्लुस्स   निकाय देखि थास्सठुस्सा  आयोग  सम्म  छ । कुन  चै  फास्सफुस्स आयोग्को  ठुलो अध्यक्ष  हुन  एउटा  न  एउटा  घनटाउकेको  खुट्टा  नथिची  कहाँ पो  हुन्छ  र । कतिपटक  त  नैबेद  चदाउन  नि  लामै  लाईन  हुने  गर्छ रे । घनटाउकेको  साला साली  देखि लिएर  बाहिरवाली  र  भित्रवालीलाइ   चदाउदै  लादा  फास्सफुस्स  आयोगबाट  आउने  नैबेद  भन्दा  चडाउने   नैबेद धेर हुन्छ  रे  भनेर  मेरो  साथी  बिर्तानगरे माइलो भन्ने  गर्थ्यो । त्यो  कतिसम्म  साचो  हो  त्यो  माइलो  नै  जानोस । तर   नैबेद नभई  घनटाउके प्रभु  खुसि  नहुनु  त  ठिकै  त  हो  नि  शिवजीलाइ त  धतुरो  नचदाई  हुन्न ।

य़ो  तन्त्र  राम्रै  होला  भन्दै  छाति  पिट्ने  र मेरो  मान्छे  घनटाउके  भएसी  तलाई    देखाउछु  भन्दै  बस्ने  सपैको  जय  होस  भन्दै -

कार्यकर्ता    लडाए,

देश  गदाए ,

छोरि -बुहरि -सालो -सासु

राज्दुत -मन्त्रि -मेयर   बनाए ,

घनटाउकेतन्त्रै  नमह।

     

ELECTION-ECONOMY AND DATA

Paradigm of thinking has changed in the present context. Information has already surpassed the value of Oil. Data has become the power and jobs which derive their energy from the data provide more remuneration. Microsoft, Apple, Amazon and Facebook which have roots in information are few of the highest valued equities. The information giants are now controlling the world economy as in a click they can take out investments from a country and make it go bankrupt. Such events already happened almost twenty years ago for elite countries of Asia called Asian Dragons.

World has witnessed four great economic revolutions. We mostly have studied first and second industrial revolution. They dealt with production, manufacturing and physical resources. Third revolution was the Micro-Chip revolution which automated the industries to a level. Now, we are dealing with the Data revolution. Data revolution is in a sense a psychological warfare where companies owning and controlling information use data to trigger your thoughts and actions. This might not make much sense but case studies of Cambridge Analytica which interfered in famously US 2016 elections and UK referendum shed much light to it. Cambridge Analytica psycho-reversed millions of population to vote using targeted ads, online games and what not. You won’t believe but they know more about you than you yourself. Beware! You’re being watched

The stirring and landscape changes in the technology hasn’t left even the barren terrains untouched. The echo of this worldwide symphony can be felt in country like ours as well. The number of tech startups has risen exponentially. The number of academicians in the field of IT has increased dramatically. We can divide the entire population into two halves- tech friendly and tech unfriendly. The non-tech friendly weigh more. B ut the upcoming decades will show the seismic changes in this pattern. It might sound too optimistic for our country which never had any industrial revolutions but data revolution has already started. We have entered the fourth economic revolution without surpassing its predecessors it’s where I sense the trouble. Before talking about my opinions on economic conundrum, in coming paragraph I want to address perplex of Neplaese Election and Cambridge Analytica

 This subsequent changes in the population dynamics bred new voters. The impact is everywhere even in Nepal as well. Millennials who preferred crispy gossips on internet and didn’t bugged to look around the actual news where the newest brand to promote the tailored adult franchise of democracy. I don’t think Nepalese Politician didn’t recognize importance of these voters. But whether they sought for help from Cambridge Analytica or not is the question which has never sparked in the country’s mainstream as well as online media platforms. But international news has differed.

You can clearly see Nepal is as well highlighted among the countries whose election campaigns had been in some way aided. Nepal is included along with our neighbor India, UK and US has allegedly reported and their subsequent parliamentary committees have performed investigation as well. It was confirmed that the company had rigged the election in UK and US. A bunch of very influential voters, typically academicians, youth and foreign employees, are under influence by the social media. These voters influence huge bunch of others and thought of them psycho-reversed is really wrenching. But none of any questions at any level has been asked in Nepal at all. A simple picture of digital influence is when thousands of users dumped and boycotted ESEWA. I am neither defending nor alleging ESEWA but it is just a glimpse of this new force which made the company dumb millions to defend it. This already gave me sleepless nights as this debate never sparked in our country. Along with this impact upon revered institution of democracy, the question of how country manages our economy in these changing cosmos is interesting. In next paragraph, I have few of my opinions over this.

Our country called as agro-based economy is just a hypocrisy. We export manpower than any other agricultural products. The steps the country is taking and driving engine of the world all has favored service oriented economy for us. These steps look good, tourism and tech industry will surely flourish. But we don’t have the basic manufacturing and production capability to meet our own demands. The growth in these sectors is negligible. We import our food and medicinal supplies. The cultivation percentage has declined over the years as well. But the most important point of consideration is psychological denial and abandonment of these sectors. Investors don’t want to invest, youths would put their toil on foreign soil rather and government- I don’t know.

 As we are facing the greatest pandemic of our lifetime, this is high time to realize that we can’t eat computers and importing food is just like asking someone else to breathe for you. Until and unless government and authority intervenes and subsidizes the production of basic supplies in our own homeland it won’t matter what our rupee is worth. We will always be in verse of getting strangled by our two big brothers.

झापा काण्ड : धर्म प्रसादको अधर्म

नया पंचायती व्यवस्था, राजा  महेन्द्रले  नमुना ग्राम घोसणा गरेको बुधबारे ग्राम अनि त्यहाका सामन्त धर्म प्रसाद उपाध्याय। यो कथा थियो नेपालमा कम्युनिस्ट क्रान्तिको सुरुवातको र अत्ति नै मनमोहक बुधबारे गाउको । धेरै ज्ञानले बिध्वान अनि धेरै जमिनले सामन्त बनाउछ। ५०० बिघ्हा खेति अधियारमा दिएका र हजार बिघ्हा जमिनमा अनारस खेति लगाएको खरिदार भनेर चिनिने धर्म प्रसाद ढकालको जमिनको कल्पना गर्न मलाई अझै हम्मेहम्मे पर्छ ।

लेखपढ अनि आयका अरु श्रोत नभएका झन्डै १०० परिवार खरिदारको जमिन कमाउथे । हरेक अधियारको भागमा ५ बिग्घा जमिन पर्थ्यो । अधियारसंग आर्थिक स्वतन्त्रता थिएन र खरिदारले उनीहरुलाई आर्थिक घेरामा घेराबन्दी गरेर सोषणको उपहार पस्किन्थे। एक मुन धानमा दश किलो , १०० उधारो लिदा एक मुन धान अनि एक पाना गोरुको ५ मुन धान । अचम्मको कुरा त के थियो भने न त अधियारले आफ्नो गोरु किन्न पाउथिये न त खरदार बाहेकको गोरु प्रयोग गर्न । उनीहरुसंग त जाडोमा ओढ्ने धुसा किन्ने समेत स्वतन्त्रता थिएन । खरदार हरेक वर्ष आफ्नो मित्रको बाट ५ का दरले किन्थिये र १० का दरले आधियारलाइ बेच्थिए । त्यस्तै उपचार, बिहे , मृत्यु र बाकी जीवनका सम्पूर्ण कुरामा खरिदारले ऋणको उपहार दिदै अधियारहरुलाई झन् आर्थिक रुपले न्याक्थिये । आफुले वर्षभरि कमाएको धानले समेत ऋण तिर्न नसकेसि निमुखो अधियार उल्टै जहान पाल्न धान उधारो लिएर आउथियो ।

पंचायती व्यवस्थाप्रति जनतामा असन्तुस्टी बढ्दै थियो । राष्ट्रिय पंचायतका सदस्य समेत रहेका उपाध्यायको सामन्त ब्यबहारबाट अधियारहरु पिरोलिएका थिए , निसासिएका थिए । त्यहि समय झापामा कम्युनिस्ट विचार धाराको प्रभाव भने बढ्दै थियो । हार्ने हैन, छाड्ने हैन , सामन्तीलाइ जिउदो राख्ने हैन भन्ने नारा लिएर बुधबारे गाउमा खरदारलाइ मार्ने योजना बनिन थाल्यो । योजनाकारहरुमा  नेपालका कम्युनिस्ट आन्दोलनका पछि गएर ठालु पदसम्म पुग्ने प्रधामन्त्री ओली समेत थिए । योजना बनियो खरिदारलाई माछा खुवाउने बहानामा केहि व्यक्ति उन्को गाउको घरमा पसे । मालिक र मालिक्नी खानुस भनेर राखे । अनि गास हाल्ने क्रममा गोलि हानेर मारिदिए । खरिदार र उनको जहानको  तेही मृत्यु भयो । बन्दुकको आवाज सुने पछि खरिदारका भर्खरै डाक्टर पढेर आएका २४ बर्से छोरा दगुददै आए । उनिको नि घाटी छिनेर हतिया गरियो । पछि गएर योजनाकार मध्येका एकले व्यक्तिगत सम्बादमा स्वीकारपनि गरे-" कान्छो छोरा भन्दा पनि जेठोलाई मार्ने योजना थियो , कहिलेकाही निमुखो डाक्टरलाइ मारे जस्तो हुन्छ ।"

तेत्रो धेरै सम्पति , नेपाल राइस मिल र क्यानिंग  कम्पनीको अधिपत्य भएका सामन्ती धर्म प्रसाद मृत थिए । उन्नका जेठा छोरा जो सहरको घरमा थिए भागेर काठमाडौँ पुगे । यसरी खरिदारको सामन्ती राज्यको अन्त्य भयो । राजा महेन्द्रका प्रिय व्यक्ति उपाध्याय मारिए पछि धेरै कम्युनिस्ट नेताहरु थुनामा परे। योजनामा संलग्न केहीलाई पक्दियो र सुखानी भन्ने ठाउमा निर्मम ढंगले राज्यले मारयो।

प्रधामन्त्री ओली , आर के मैनाली , सिपी मैनाली लगाएतका नेतालाई जेल जडान गरियो । ओली येही कारणले लामो समय जेल जीवन व्यतित गरे तर उनले कम्युनिस्ट आन्दोलनको क्रान्तिको सुरुवात अनि राष्ट्रिय रुपमै पहिचान भने चाही  पाए । कसले सोचेको थियो होला र यो युवा योजनाकार पछि गएर नेपालको प्रम हुन्छ भनेर | कम्युनिस्ट पार्टीको कोशी समितिले गरेको त्यो नेपालको कम्युनिस्ट आन्दोलनको पहिलो निर्मम हतिया काण्ड थियो । अहिले इतिहास फरक छ । ओली लगायतका नेता अहिले सक्तिसाली छन् तर उहिले सामन्तीलाइ हटाउन हिडेकाहरु आफै त सामन्तबाद तिर लम्केका छैनन् भन्ने प्रश्न मेरो मनले सदैब गर्छ ।

QUANTUM LEAP

Is imagining an easy task? Actually, it's not when we try to imagine something totally different or tedious. Obviously, we can't imagine ourselves dying. So, it’s too difficult to imagine what is seemingly correct but difficult for us to accept .Changes are inevitable and everything is dynamic but not in terms of nature . Nature always follows its sets of rules (which is made by itself, probably) that aren't amendable at all but sometimes the one who try to mathematicalize the behavior of nature end up estimating something incomplete. We keep on adding the things based on incorrect or incomplete facts and end up developing view of different world then actual. But nature walks on its own and at the end we know we were incorrect and there is remarkable revolution when we get to know much of nature. Such revolutions too happened in physics. Some of the magicians just changed the way of thinking about the nature in its elementary level. This magical change from predictability to unpredictability is only called quantum leap .Its where we get acquainted with the most probable nature. So, let’s get ready to be colored in color of quantum physics where we visualize beyond imagination.

When we want to integrate something, the first step we take is to find out its infinitesimally small part. Now, you might think what’s the use of this assumption here. It’s actually analogous that if we want to know or explore our universe we must know its smallest part or the infinitesimally small parts which are to be integrated up to infinity to get this expanding universe. The first think that strikes our mind when we think of smallest things are atoms as we learned in school days. The great Bohr explained it as a small solar system with center like a sun which is larger and small entities of same physical constraints revolving around it. Actually our analogy of knowing small part to know the larger one is actually working here but seemingly it’s a mirage here. Now just try to imagine ,the chair in which I am sitting consists of tiny parts with something revolving around it. Yah it’s so tedious but it is truth in a manner (different structure of atom is suggested then that of Bohr's).Now, talking about this atoms the most interesting thing about them are their charge carrying guards called electrons.

Our own world is surrounded by quantum mechanical phenomena. One of the most common exploit of QM is our cell phones operated by micro-controllers with transistor. To know the transistor the science and mystery of semi-conductor is necessary and what actually working on these semi-conductors are electrons which are studied under Quantum Mechanics. So, its simple that Quantum Mechanics study of electrons has given us the smart world and wider use and exploit of QM will prove a great asset into the modernization of the society. So, we must get ready to see another quantum leap.
